Membership support volunteer team leader

Hi, my name is Sally

My journey with Girlguiding began in my home country of South Africa, where I joined as a Brownie and later achieved the Protea Award, which is the equivalent of the Queen’s Guide Award in the UK. Those early experiences instilled in me a passion for adventure, community, and leadership—values that have stayed with me throughout my life.

In 2005, I moved to the UK to work at Pax Lodge in London. During my 3.5 years there, I had the privilege of meeting and working with incredible young women from all over the world, each bringing their own cultures and perspectives. My time at Pax Lodge deepened my understanding of how powerful Girlguiding can be as a global movement, and it cemented my commitment to its mission.

Now, I am proud to be a leader with Rainbows, Guides, and Ranger, helping girls explore new opportunities, gain confidence, and build friendships. Recently I have just finished my term as an Assistant County Commissioner for Hertfordshire, a role where I had the chance to work with other dedicated volunteers to enhance the guiding experience across the county.

I’ve been fortunate to take on some exciting projects, including leading the team for the Anglia region’s Super Rainbows event, which was an unforgettable experience for everyone involved. Currently, I’m working as part of the planning team for the upcoming Anglia PJ Party, and I’m excited to help create more memories for girls across the region.

Girlguiding is more than just a passion for me—it’s a family tradition. My two daughters are also active members: my eldest is in Rangers and a young leader in a brownie unit, and my youngest is a brownie. Watching them grow through guiding, just as I did, is exciting and believing they can do anything.

Through all my years of involvement, from South Africa to Hertfordshire, Girlguiding has been a constant source of inspiration and connection. I feel privileged to be a part of such an empowering movement, and I look forward to continuing to help girls discover their potential, one guiding adventure at a time.
